Michele De Lucchi graduated in industrial design at the University of Florence, where he later taught in his career. At the age of 22, Michele De Lucchi founded a design and architecture group called Carvart. It was at the age of 24 that he joined the Kartell family. That’s where he met his incoming friend, Ettore Sottsass. He produced several highly innovative prototypes which however never saw the day. He then became a consultant for Olivetti, where he created a new furniture line in collaboration with Ettore Sottsass. In his own studio based in Milan, he worked with many important companies such as Artemide, Fontana Arte, Arflex and Kartell. He also received the Compasso d’Oro (one of the most influential international award in design) in 1989 for his table lamp "Tolomeo".
