Emeco is an American company with a strong history. Founded in 1944, Emeco had nothing to do with today's "design" business. Indeed, their first chair (the Navy chair) was created for US submarines. The chair was so durable with an estimated life cycle of more than 150 years that the US government was changing its fleet of submarines, but kept Emeco's Navy chairs. It was when Gregg Buchbinder bought the company that the "public" began to know the Navy. Several great designers such as Philippe Starck and Ettore Sottsass had already made projects with this chair. Gregg began to restructure the company. He wanted to make products of extreme quality with a deep environmental awareness. All Emeco products are made from recycled materials!
